Publishers Weekly, the international news platform of the book publishing industry, is looking for experienced freelance book reviewers for both traditionally published and self-published works. Applicants should be able to comfortably handle books in one or more of the following subject areas (please note the bolded genres are our current areas of priority):

Children's fiction reviewers with an interest in contemporary realistic, historical, and/or speculative narratives
Children's reviewers who have subject-matter expertise with BIPOC narratives, specifically stories rooted in African, Indigenous, Latinx, and/or East or South Asian experiences (picture book and graphic novel reviewers must have knowledge of the forms and be comfortable assessing art)
Children's fiction reviewers specializing in narratives centering disability experiences and/or queer experiences.
Children's nonfiction reviewers (please specify nonfiction subject-matter expertise when applying; picture book and graphic novel reviewers must have knowledge of the forms and be comfortable assessing art)
Middle grade and YA reviewers who have subject-matter expertise with BIPOC narratives, specifically fiction and/or nonfiction stories rooted in Black diasporic, Indigenous, Latinx, and/or East or South Asian experiences.
Middle grade and YA reviewers who have subject-matter expertise with fiction and/or nonfiction narratives centering queer and/or transgender experiences.
Middle grade and YA reviewers who have subject-matter expertise with fiction and/or nonfiction narratives centering experiences of disability and/or neurodivergence.
PW pays $25 per review.
Please note that most reviews are done using e-galleys; however, some physical galleys may be sent.
If you are interested in reviewing for PW, please send a resume and a sample review (approximately 200 words) of a recently published book to [email protected]. (Please look at published PW reviews for editorial formatting examples. Previously written reviews not following the guidelines will not be accepted) Use the email subject heading "Book Reviewing:" followed by the categories you are interested in. For example, "Book Reviewing: Music, Romance." Applications submitted any other way or missing materials will not be considered. Members of diverse communities are highly encouraged to apply.

Job Requirements
Book enthusiasts with an education and a background in specific areas preferred, though all are welcome to apply. Applicants must be able to meet deadlines and assess sensitive stereotypes.
