- Acquisitions Director
Description
About the Role
Echo Point Books & Media is a fast-growing independent audiobook publisher with a distinctive approach to acquisitions and production. We’re looking for an experienced Acquisitions Director to lead and scale our acquisitions program at a pivotal moment in the company’s growth.
Reporting to the CEO and Head of Publishing, this role combines hands-on acquisitions work with team leadership. You’ll personally sign two to three dozen high-quality titles per year while coaching and managing our acquisitions team of Associate Audio Publishers (AAPs) to meaningfully increase their output and the quality of titles they bring in.
Echo Point is headquartered in Brattleboro, Vermont, but a number of our team members are fully remote. This role is expected to be primarily remote, with occasional travel to our office in Vermont and industry events/book fairs.
This isn’t a seat-filler role, we’re building something special and are growing fast! We’re looking for the person who will supercharge that momentum.
Key Responsibilities
Acquisitions Strategy & Execution
- Personally acquire two to three dozen high-quality titles per year, focusing on higher-value opportunities that raise the bar for the overall list
- Develop and refine Echo Point’s acquisitions strategy in partnership with CEO and Head of Publishing
- Build and maintain relationships with agents, rights holders, and key industry contacts
- Evaluate market opportunities and identify gaps in the list that align with the company’s growth targets
Team Leadership & AAP Development
- Manage and mentor a team of Associate Audio Publishers, driving significant increases in per-person productivity and title quality
- Establish workflows, review processes, and coaching rhythms that help AAPs work smarter—not just faster
- Set clear expectations for output and quality standards; hold the team accountable while supporting their development
- Collaborate with the Head of Publishing to streamline existing bottlenecks that pull AAPs away from acquisitions work
Operational Leadership
- Assume day-to-day oversight of acquisitions operations currently managed by the CEO and Head of Publishing, freeing leadership capacity for strategic priorities
- Contribute to pipeline forecasting, title-level financial analysis, and portfolio performance review
- Partner cross-functionally with production, marketing, and finance to ensure smooth handoffs from signed deal to published title
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Pay: $140,000 – $160,000 per year
- Competitive performance bonuses tied to acquisitions results and team productivity
- Work Location: Remote, with preference for NYC-Metro
- Benefits: 401(k), Paid time off, Employer-sponsored Health/Dental/Vision
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, national origin or any other category protected by law.
